The TRAM4DW project has successfully concluded the recruitment process for the Transnational Labour Counsellor Trainee position in Madrid, an initiative designed to strengthen labour counselling services for migrant workers and promote fair labour mobility across Europe.

The programme represents an important step in developing practical tools and professional expertise to support mobile workers navigating employment systems in different European countries.

The traineeship is hosted by ACCESOphia in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid, particularly through the Faculty of Social Work.

By combining academic research with field-based experience, the traineeship contributes to building stronger labour support networks for mobile workers and improving access to reliable employment information.

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process followed an open and transparent approach designed to attract candidates with experience or interest in migration, social inclusion, and labour counselling.

The vacancy for one trainee position was published through ACCESOphia’s website and social media channels and was also promoted through digital displays at the Faculty of Social Work of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, ensuring visibility among students and professionals working in social sciences and migration-related fields.

A total of six candidates applied for the traineeship.

Following the initial evaluation process:

  • One candidate was pre-selected and invited for an interview.
  • The interview panel included the university’s project manager and supervising lecturer, the NGO’s project manager, and the appointed mentor.
  • After the final evaluation, one trainee was selected for a one-year internship, which officially started on 6 March.

To ensure high-quality supervision, a mentor and three supervising lecturers were formally appointed to provide academic guidance, professional mentoring, and continuous supervision throughout the internship.

Profile of the Selected Trainee

The selected trainee, Consuelo Medina, is a psychotherapist specialised in intercultural adaptation and labour transition in migration contexts, with professional experience in both Spain and the United Kingdom.

Her professional background reflects a strong commitment to supporting people experiencing migration-related challenges and combines psychosocial analysis, individual counselling, and work in multicultural environments, particularly within educational, community, and clinical contexts.

She currently works as an online contextual psychotherapist, supporting migrants navigating labour and cultural adaptation processes across Europe. Her work focuses on identity and career transitions, and migration-related decision-making.

Her previous experience includes:

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing Mentor at The Dolphin School, supporting children and adolescents in multicultural educational environments and coordinating emotional support plans with families and teachers.
  • Work in multicultural early childhood education settings promoting inclusion and cultural diversity at Raised in Bristol.
  • Volunteer support with Womankind, providing emotional guidance and referrals for women experiencing domestic violence.

Consuelo holds a Master’s Degree in Contextual Therapies from the Madrid Institute of Contextual Psychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile). She is bilingual in Spanish and English and has extensive experience working in international environments.

As a migrant herself, she brings valuable personal insight into the emotional and professional challenges associated with migration, including cultural adaptation, uncertainty, rebuilding support networks and developing a new professional path in a different country.

Supporting Fair Labour Mobility in Europe

Through this traineeship, the TRAM4DW project aims to:

  • Build preventive transnational labour counselling capacities
  • Improve access to reliable labour information for mobile workers
  • Promote cooperation between universities, NGOs, and labour support networks
